The owner of the 18th Dynasty Egyptian tomb was a noble man who worked as the city judge. He was buried in the tomb along with his family. Archaeologists were ecstatic to discover the contents of this tomb were in such pristine condition!

The inside of the tomb was thought to be untouched since it was originally sealed, however it appears that this isn’t the first time the tomb has been opened since it was first closed. During the 21st Dynasty, about 500 years after the tomb was originally sealed, it was re-opened and more mummies were added to the original group. The mummies that were later added to the tomb were removed from their own crypts to prevent the bodies from being damaged by thieves as this was a time where graves were commonly being robbed.

There were eight mummies and ten coffins found in the tomb and more than 1,000 ushabti figurines, small carved figurines, found in the tomb. The excavation is ongoing and new discoveries are still being made within the tomb. In the archaeology community, this is hailed as an important discovery.
